Especially for those in the Twin Cities: I received word from Greg Smisek via his Got Culture e-mail list that Monsignor Schuler passed away yesterday. Of course, most of you probably receive Greg’s e-mails, but in case, I’m reprinting it below.
I didn’t know Monsignor Schuler well, but a good number of friends of mine did, including a good number of men that have gone on to become priests in the Archdiocese of St Paul and Mpls. Other friends were in his Latin schola, and spoke of him fondly. His love for the Church, the liturgy and sacred music are known far beyond the Twin Cities area. Amy Welborn’s post today includes some links to Catholic bloggers who have been sharing their memories of this well-loved priest.
Monsignor Richard J. Schuler, former pastor of St. Agnes, faithful priest, lover of Christ and His Church, and ardent promoter of the sacred liturgy, the patrimony of sacred music, and priestly vocations, has passed on to his eternal reward.
